The research
This site is about choosing and working with an adviser. The fee and preparer rules themselves, country by country, are set out on a sister site, which is also published by Swanson Reed. That site argues for a change in those rules. This page says what is there and how the two sites differ.
Two sites, two jobs
This site is practical. It helps a business ask the right questions, compare proposals and read an engagement letter, and it takes no position on how advisers should be paid. Each fee model is described with the businesses it suits and the ones it does not, and no model is ranked above another.
The sister site does a different job. ResearchCreditIntegrity.org is an advocacy site. It sets out its publisher's argument for changing the rules on how R&D tax advisers are paid in the United States. It also publishes the fee and preparer rules for each country with their sources. It takes a position; this site does not. Both are published by Swanson Reed, an R&D tax advisory firm with a commercial interest in the subject.
What you will find there
- The rules by country. For each country it covers, the sister site sets out the scheme, the tax authority, the claim notification rules and the rules on adviser fees. Each has its official source. Where the sister site covers your country, the country page on this site links to the matching page there.
- White papers and briefs. Longer pieces that set out the publisher's case. They are argument, written from a stated point of view, and should be read as such.
- Policy proposals. What the publisher asks lawmakers to do.
How to read it
Read the rules pages for the rules, and check them against the official sources they cite, as you would with the country pages here. Read the papers and proposals as one side of a debate, published by a firm with an interest in the outcome. This site does not repeat that argument, and nothing on this site depends on your agreeing with it. If your question is "what should I ask before I sign?", the answer is on this site, in the questions to ask and the contracts section.

ResearchCreditIntegrity.org is also published by Swanson Reed.
KnowYourFees.org is published by Swanson Reed, an R&D tax advisory firm that competes with other advisers. This site does not recommend any adviser, including Swanson Reed.
